Here is a Fischel children’s bentwood chair made in the former Czechoslovakia, so crafted after 1918. Fischel Bentwood chairs are made using beech wood and are entirely formed or bent by hand. The pressed wood seat has a symmetrical shell decoration that is neo-classical in style, the same design being used on ‘grown-ups’ chairs. Whilst Fischel chairs can still be found, it is very difficult to find ones that retain all of their original factory labels and stamp. This example, delightfully has a child’s artwork on the underside of the seat. The chair is in reasonabley good order, it is solid and sturdy with age related patina and wear.
