Here is a fine French inlaid satinwood and glass Tantalus or decanter box with key. This elegant box was made in the third quarter 19th century and most likely would have been used for liqueurs. The rectangular hinged case is inlaid with a foliate design, the sides and lid have an inlaid frame. There are, on the sides bronze scrolled handles, the front has a bronze escutcheon, the lock is in working order and retains the key. The interior is fitted to hold decanters and glasses. There is a complete set of four stoppered decanters and twelve small goblets, 11 goblets appearing to be original, one is a replacement.
The box has age related patina and wear, two top corners have some minor damage, there are chips to some of the drinking glasses.
